Walmart Inc has ended its partnership with Bossa Nova Robotics inc to use roving robots to scan shelves and keep track of their inventory. It also means ending the world’s largest retailer’s years-long efforts to automate the task.
Both companies have been working together for five years in improving customer experience by using robots to assist shop staff and make their jobs easier.
In a statement, Walmart said using roving robots was one idea that they tried in about 500 stores. At the same time, they are also implementing other ideas in additional stores. The supermarket chain added it would continue to test new technologies and invest in processes and apps. It is so that they can track inventory and help move products to shelves as quickly as possible.
As a part of its effort to digitize its store and compete with Amazon.con Inc, Walmart began to use shelf-scanning robots in 2017 to restock inventory faster and save employees’ time when products run out.
