Self-checkouts technology is available for customers to complete their transactions for a few years. Also, the technology is steadily grown in terms of the apps they run, the precision of their weight scale, and the customer’s available payment choices. As consumers’ interest is being the focus now more than ever, the current situation has made marketers concentrate their strategy on self-service innovations and applications.
A retailer based in the Netherlands, Jumbo Supermarkten has chosen NCR to establish self-checkout solutions for its more than 680 retails in Holland and Belgium.
Since 2003, NCR has been the leading provider of self-checkout solutions and is continuing to develop its technology with touchless self-checkout technologies. Hence, the retailer chose NCR for its exceptional expertise and its proven solutions that add value to the customer experience in the new retail reality.
“After a comprehensive evaluation, NCR stood out through its deep understanding of our pledge to make shopping faster for our customers and how self-checkout would enhance our customer experience,” said Tim Hehenkamp, Executive Director Technology & Data at Jumbo. “We are looking forward to this next step in our digital transformation with NCR.”
This implementation would complement the current store architecture of Jumbo that includes the enterprise software framework R10 of NCR, another main component of the Next Generation Retail Store architecture of NCR, as well as the mobile scanning solution of NCR, NCR FastLane Mobile Shopper.
Retailers around the world are starting to adopt technologies of self-service. Market research company RBR expects the adoption to continue in light of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and predicts an installed base of 1.2 million self-checkout units by 2025.
