A hotel convenience store has been installed by Zippin, a supplier of checkout-free technologies for physical retail.
According to a press release, Zippin’s partner, Fujitsu, a systems integrator, has partnered with Koyo Group, a property developer, to incorporate the checkout-free store inside a hotel at the Yokohama Techno Tower Hotel.
During the pandemic, the store keeps customers and staff comfortable with a cashless checkout, reduces line tension and wait times, and improves customer loyalty by maximising the product lineup.
The Green Leaves Plus shop, which sells pre-packaged food and drinks as well as fresh bento box meals, launched as a pilot this year and enabled customers to access the store via a mobile app. Customers are expected to register their credit card details and then enter the store with the QR code shown on the app.
Customers can also use the multi-biometric authentication technology that connects your palm vein and facial recognition data to the smartphone application. A smartphone is no longer needed for entry, only a swipe of the palm after registration.
In April 2021, Koyo will launch full-scale operations at the store.
Koyo also runs convenience stores and restaurants in over 500 hospitals, in addition to hotels. The new store is part of Koyo’s multi-phase development strategy to build new convenient hospital foodservice concepts.
