IBM and Delta Air Lines have announced a multi-year partnership. IBM will help lead Delta to the public cloud to improve its agility, business speed, and digital transformation innovation capabilities.
IBM will provide infrastructure and business experience to modernise and move Delta’s software to the public cloud as part of the extended partnership. IBM will transform the computing environment of Delta to run on a Red Hat OpenShift-built hybrid cloud architecture, allowing a transparent, standards-based approach to cloud-based creation, security and operations.
Experts from IBM, spanning travel transport and technology, work with Delta teams to use the IBM Garage Methodology and IBM hybrid cloud software, such as CloudPaks, to modernise existing applications and co-create new solutions that power the transformation of Delta. This partnership will help Delta drive greater competitiveness in software engineering and improve customer experience in the future.
For Delta and the airline industry, IBM and Delta have a long history of partnering on groundbreaking ventures that have contributed to developments. Early last year, through the IBM Q Network, the companies announced a multi-year joint initiative to explore quantum computing’s future capabilities for airline customers and employees to transform experiences.

This long-term project would use the power of IBM’s hybrid cloud approach, allowing Delta to create apps once and deploy them anywhere, incorporate security across the breadth of its IT estate, and automate operations with visibility for management.
